Hey there Chicago parents, are you on the search for budget-friendly summer events for the entire family? We found a few fun, low-cost (and free!) events for you and the kids. Take a look at a few upcoming, summer events in The City.
The 17th annual Chicago SummerDance kicks off tomorrow evening (June 27) at 6:30pm with instruction on the Zydeco Two Step. Chicagoans are invited to dance the rest of the evening away on the Chicago Ground Cover at Grant Park from 7:30pm to 9:30pm to the live grooves of Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys. SummerDance runs through the month of September and features exciting dance instruction in the genres of Argentine Tango, the Lindy Hop, Salsa, and even Greek and Irish folk dancing. Any and all skill levels are invited to bust a move and sweat every Thursday through Sunday. Be aware that the Sunday schedule runs from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
Here’s an event sure to impress the youngest of kids. The Lisle Eyes to the Skies Festival has been a Lisle, IL staple for over 30 years. Just over 30 minutes from the heart of Chicago, this festival is a must-see summer event. The five-day event begins July 3rd at 5:00pm for $5.00 admission (kids under 5 enter for free) with a carnival and balloon launches throughout the evening. On Independence Day the festival opens at 12:00pm so hit up carnival rides with the kids ($1.00 per ticket) or take a stroll through the crafts area which features handmade artwork, clothing, and jewelry. Children can get their faces painted or attend a magic show before you settle down to watch the first balloon glow and fireworks show. This is sure to be a summer event to remember!
Beginning July 9, the Family Fun Festival offers families a summer-long opportunity for hands-on activities, reading circles, and live entertainment at Millenium Park. Start your day with sing-alongs, circle dances, and games at 10:00am with Wiggleworm instructors from the Old Town School of Folk Music. Wind down at 11:00am with a Reading Circle and then kick-up your energy level with live music and dancing during Family Performances at 1:00pm. The Family Fun Activity Zone will feature interactive activities and projects led by local museums and cultural organizations. Themes change weekly so be sure to return for more free, family fun!
