Memorial Day Weekend Activities: Houston Edition

1. Memorial Day Weekend Celebration and Fireworks Show. May 24 – 25. www.woodlandsonline.com. Town Green Park in the Woodlands hosts a fabulous Memorial Day bash every year, with live music, special kids activities, face painting, and a huge fireworks show. The premier Memorial Day event in Houston!


2. Summer Wonderweek at Children’s Museum of Houston. May 24. www.cmhouston.org. This beginning of summer celebration lets kids do some cool interactive projects to celebrate their achievements. In addition, the whole family can attend the spotlight performance at 3 pm of the Double Dutch Group, and watch some jaw-dropping jump rope tricks.


3. The Magna Carta Exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. May 24 – August 17. www.visithoustontexas.com. This historic document, considered to be a model on which the U.S. Constitution was based, will be in Houston for a limited time. History buffs will not want to miss this.


4. Carnival Houston Parade and Show at Discovery Green. May 24. www.discoverygreen.com. This explosion of music, food, costume and dance is all-inclusive, and celebrates carnivals from the Caribbean, Brazil, and of course, New Orleans Mardi Gras.


5. Comicpalooza at the George R. Brown Convention Center. May 23 – May 26. www.comicpalooza.com. Really, with a guest list this year that includes Stan Lee, Lou Ferrigno, Cary Elwes, Billy Dee Williams, and Rose McGowan, there is no excuse to miss out. Families should take the opportunity to dress up and stargaze.
