I’ve always been an avid reader. As a child, I remember spending many summer days (and nights) tearing through books and crafting my own stories–many unfinished but interesting reads now that I’m older. On the other hand, my best friend was not (and is still not) a fan of leisure reading, so I’m familiar with the divide between kids who love school and those who need some encouragement and maybe a gentle push back into the rhythm.
Here are a few Houston-area programs that will help prepare your little one for the 2013-2014 school year:
Language Kids provides a setting where children can immerse themselves in a foreign language. Campers can choose to learn Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese in five-day language acquisition camps in August. The little ones will build a greater understanding of their chosen country’s language by learning to express themselves and build conversation, all while learning about a different culture. Engage your little one’s listening and problem solving skills before the start of the new school year with this awesome academic camp!
Are you looking for a way to ease your little nerd from gaming-mode to homework-mode? Wonder-Space Technology Camp gives the growing gamer a look at behind-the-scenes games construction and a glimpse into the technology used to design their favorite video games. Also available are math camps, which will prep kiddos for their inevitable return to the classroom. At the end of the five-day camp, the children will present what they’ve learned and created!
From book clubs to conversational Spanish class, the Bay Area Learning Center offers summer enrichment programs that will have your child thinking, writing, and solving well before the first day of school. Campers are invited to sign up for a day camp program and add on a weekly math, art, physics, or Spanish class to mix things up! The center carefully selects teachers with a history for balancing expertise and child engagement to make for a worthwhile and exciting summer academic experience for kids.
I would definitely want my mom to sign me up for the book club and the summer writing program at the Bay Area Learning Center. Which program will interest your little one? Let us know in the comments section.
