Family Fun in San Francisco: Weekend Picks

Summer is officially here and that means family activities are in full swing. We have compiled a list of some of the coolest events happening in the San Francisco area, and have listed them below! 1. Chocolate and Chalk Art Festival. May 31. www.anotherbullwinkelshow.com/chocolate-chalk-art/

With festival booths full of activities including pony rides, balloon twisters, and face painters, this is one of the most popular festivals San Francisco offers. Don’t miss the Oreo shakes and Caribbean chocolate soup!


2. Chomp! They Camp from the Swamp exhibit at the Conservatory of Flowers. May 31 – October 19. www.conservatoryofflowers.org/special-events/chomp-they-came-swamp

The plant world is more dangerous than you might think! In this special exhibition, kids can learn about how certain plants have adapted to attract, capture, and eat prey.


3. Fantasia Live with the San Francisco Symphony. May 31-June 1. www.sfsymphony.org

This thrilling musical extravaganza includes excerpts from the classic Disney film as well as Fantasia 2000.


4. SF Silent Film Festival. May 30 – June 1. www.silentfilm.org/festival/festival-2014-schedule

Children (or adults) that have never experienced the fun of silent film might just be surprised. This annual festival features showings of different classic and rare silent films the whole weekend.


5. Little Open Studio “Storytime, Color, and Light” at the Walt Disney Family Museum. May 31. www.waltdisney.org/node/1270/1

Children can explore the theories of light and color in a fun, kid-friendly atmosphere. Plus, they get to experiment with glow in the dark paint.
