Family Fun in Houston: Weekend Picks

Summer has officially begun and to celebrate, we have compiled a list of some of the coolest activities and events happening in Houston this weekend. Check them out and let us know if you will be going to any of them! And if you still haven’t signed up for summer camp, check out our full listing on www.camperoo.com. We went ahead and picked out a couple of our favorites, and listed them at the bottom of this post!

1. AIA Sandcastle Competition. May 31. https://aiahouston.org/v/event-detail/AIA-Sandcastle/ct/

This fund-raising event is free and open to the public, and families are encouraged to come view the stunning works of sandcastle art.

2. Music Festival at Wet n’ Wild Splashtown. May 31. www.wetnwildsplashtown.com/events/

This weekend will be the last one for the music festival, and the perfect way to start out summer!

3. Historic House Tours by the Heritage Society. May 31. www.heritagesociety.org/hours.html

With options to take the tour with a docent or with an audio guide, this is a great way to get familiar with the historic side of Houston.

4. Free tour of Houston Ship Channel at Sam Houston Boat Tours. May 31. www.portofhouston.com/samhou.samhou.html

A little off the beaten path, but an interesting look at a very important part of Houston’s economy, this is a great way to soak up some sun while learning about local business.

5. “The Wartime Escape” exhibit at the Holocaust Museum in Houston. May 31 – June 15. http://www.hmh.org/ViewExhibits.aspx?ID=100&ExhibitType=UpcomingOngoing

For those who haven’t yet visited, or haven’t visited in a while, this new exhibit at the museum is fascinating and insightful. It tells the story of Margret and H.A. Rey’s (the author of Curious George) escape from France during the Nazi invasion.

Children who are fascinated by dissections and science experiments (or just want to get a head start on medical school) will want to sign up for a summer camp at The Health Museum. They have lots of different options to choose from, but hurry, these fill up quickly. www.camperoo.com/store/thehealthmuseum lists all their offerings this summer.

Young sports fans can get in on the action at Soccer Shots, a high-energy sports camp featuring professional instructors and coaches. They only have a few sessions open, so head on over to www.camperoo.com/store/soccershots and sign up.

Make sure to sign up for our newsletter for early access to sales and specials, as well as fun things going on near you! As always, shop anytime on Camperoo for any children’s camp or activity!
