Family Fun in Chicago: Weekend Picks

Summer has officially arrived, and with it, a whole slew of exciting, family-friendly activities. We have located a few events happening this weekend that sound especially cool, and have listed them below. Will you be attending any of them? Let us know, and if you still need to sign up for summer camp, go to the Camperoo website for a huge selection of camps and programs. We included a couple of our favorites at the bottom of this post!

1. Meet real explorers at the Museum of Science and Industry. May 31. www.msichicago.org

This amazing exhibit gives kids the chance to meet two legendary explorers featured in the film “National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers.”

2. Festival Del Taco at Little Village. May 31 – June 1. www.chicagoevents.com/event.cfm?eid=303

This event features arts and crafts, music, and of course, lots of different kinds of delicious tacos. Best of all, the event is very family-friendly.

3. Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo Theater. May 31 – June 1. www.milliondollarquartetlive.com

This live musical features songs by Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. Bring the whole family to the historic Apollo Theater and witness the story of a famous collaboration.

4. Do Division Family Fun Fest. May 31 – June 1. www.do-divisionstreetfest.com/fest/family/

This festival includes two city blocks full of family-friendly activities, including inflatable obstacle courses, goodie bags, pony rides, face painting, mini golf, and much more. We especially love the live entertainment going on both days!

5. Stingray Touch at Shedd Aquarium. May 31 – Sept 28. www.sheddaquarium.org

For those who have ever wondered how a stingray feels (and looks up close) here is the perfect opportunity. Youngsters that are fascinated with marine life can discover the unique texture of a stingray’s skin and learn how they live in the wild.

For fabulous week-long theater programs for kids, where they can learn valuable skills and have a blast while doing so, check out Provision Theater Company’s summer camp selections on www.camperoo.com/store/provisiontheater.

Kids that are artistically inclined will love the range of activities and camps at One Strange Bird, one of Chicago’s premier art spaces. Camperoo offers a full listing of their summer programs at www.camperoo.com/store/onestrangebird.
