Whether the little ones are ready or not, the academic year is just around the corner. Get your kiddos back in the school spirit with one of our academic offerings in the San Francisco/Bay Area on Camperoo! If you’re looking for things to do in San Francisco this weekend or a last minute activity before you plan a back-to-school shopping excursion, here are some events in the area that promise lots of fun:
San Francisco Family Day Kite Festival
Enjoy high-flying family fun this Saturday, August 17, from 11am to 5pm at the Presidio Main Post for the Family Day Kite Festival. Kids and family can build kites at the Make-a-Kite Pavilion, watch world champion kite acrobatics, enter kite flying contests (amateur flyers welcome), and munch on delectable treats from local vendors. If you’re looking for a great way to get the family outdoors as a unit, this weekend event in San Francisco is the perfect choice for you!
Back-to-School at the San Francisco Zoo
The new school year is just around the corner, and I’m sure there are plenty of students shaking their heads in protest. Get them excited about the return to the classroom with a trip to the San Francisco Zoo for their back-to-school weekend. The Zoo is offering a plethora of fun, educational classes, ranging from Nature Trail to Incredible Insects in Action to Pond Feeding at the Family Farm and a Barnyard Stampede. There will also be plenty of animal feedings and open houses including the giraffes, big cats, and grizzly bears. The event runs August 17-18 and events begin at 10:30am. The first 500 kids to enter the Zoo will receive a special San Francisco Zoo drawstring backpack filled with fun animal-themed school supplies!
Framed: Step into Art
A trip to the museum is always an exciting way for children to interact with history. The Bay Area Discovery Museum invites children and families to explore an interactive world of art in the newest traveling exhibit, Framed: Step into Art. Step into famous works of art or add fine details to historical pieces such one of Diego Rivera’s frescos, John Singer Sargent’s Camp at Lake O’Hara, or pose as Mona Lisa. Created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, Framed will be at Discovery through September 8th.
There are tons of events going on in the San Francisco and Bay Area this weekend. Which of our choices are you looking forward to? Is there a San Francisco event you want to suggest? Let us know in the comments section!
