In this day and age, parents are more in tune with trends than ever, be it with the newest gadget, phrase, parenting style, fashion, or camp. (Don’t forget to check out some of the trendy camps and activities on Camperoo!) We all want our little darlings to look as adorable and hip as possible without breaking the bank too.
When I first had my daughter, we were a one-income family and I stayed home with her. It was great, and we wouldn’t change anything about it. But it also required that my husband and I budget and save where we could. Now, if you know anything about babies, you know how quick they grow. It can be hard to keep enough clothes on hand to accommodate such a quickly growing child and a teeny tiny pocketbook. But we managed, and today we have a happy, healthy, and well dressed pre-schooler on our hands. P.S. She loves to try to wear her entire closet on a daily basis.
Even now that we are a two-income family, I still enjoy getting the most bang for my buck, so that means I still shop sales and consignment stores. Check out my list for my (and fellow moms’) fave places for shopping on the cheap for kids clothes in Houston, and remember that tax-free weekend is August 9-11!
1. Kid To Kid Galleria
Kid to Kid is centrally located in the upscale Galleria area of Houston. But not to worry moms, its prices aren’t upscale! Just down the street from the world famous shopping Mecca, the Galleria, Kid to Kid boasts a family run and super cheery shopping atmosphere. You are sure to be greeted promptly upon arrival by owner Sherri and her staff. Kid to Kid’s shelves and racks are lined with the latest gently used toys and clothes for infants through tweens. Not only do they have awesome clothes, but their shoe selection is also top notch! With a floor to ceiling wall full of the cutest shoes in all sizes for your little fashionista, Kid to Kid is sure to please! Personally, I have never paid over $8 for any single item of clothing. K2K has some of the top name brands too, such as Hanna Anderson, Gymboree, & Ralph Lauren. Now here’s the kicker, if you come in Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm, you can even sell your gently worn and freshly laundered kids clothes that no longer fit. So you could, in essence, get your next set of clothes for free (or really cheap) if you take their generous store credit offer! Check out their Facebook page to stay up to date on sales and happenings! Don’t forget to tell Sherri “hi” for me!
2. Crayons Children’s Resale
Mother-Daughter team, Gail and Emily, run this huge, well-stocked 5000-square foot facility at Westheimer and Eldridge Parkway. Another one of Houston’s great consignment shops for babies to tweens, Crayons should definitely be on your shopping to-do list. A quick glance on their Facebook page shows their brand new retail space is chock full of clothes as far as the eye can see. You won’t be disappointed in the selection! Whatever questions you may have, Emily and Gail are there to help. Because they take in consignments 6 days a week, they are bound to have something new every day so make sure to stop in often. Many times I have shopped at Crayons and spent less than $20 on a huge bag full of gently used clothes for my daughter. Plus, if you love Avon products, Gail is an Avon lady, and she’ll be sure to hook you up with what you need!
3. Once Upon A Child – Copperfield
Located on FM 529, Once Upon a Child – Copperfield, prides itself as a gold star standard store within it’s company of franchises. Their website claims they “have been recognized for achieving the highest standards in Product, Quality, Operations and Customer Service.” Yet another one of Houston’s great children’s resale shops, OUAC buys and sells your gently used clothes, toys, and equipment. When you shop here you’ll notice prices are up to 70% off retail. That’s certainly a great savings for parent’s looking to stock up on a new wardrobe. Especially with school right around the corner!
Well, Houston, these are our top 3 picks for shopping the cutest clothes at rock bottom prices. Did we miss a store that you think should be listed? Let us in the comments section below. We’d love to add them to our list! Oh, and we hope you enjoy the upcoming tax-free weekend!
